Maggie Centre Royal Marsden
I am sure everyone is aware of the great support that Maggie
Centre’s offer around the country, but for those that may not know, Maggie’s at The Royal Marsden provides free cancer support to both inpatients and outpatients, along with their family and friends should they wish.
Set up by the late Charles Jencks and Maggie Keswick Jencks, Maggie’s features over 20 structures in its arsenal, created by some of the world’s leading names in architecture, including OMA, Steven Holl and Zaha Hadid. Rogers’ has just been launched, set on the site of the Royal Marsden hospital in Sutton, a facility known for its advanced cancer research and treatment.
The centre provides a breathing space away from the hospital where visitors can meet people who understand what they are going through or just take a quiet moment to reflect and relax in these beautiful surroundings. The services on offer are designed to further enhance the psychological support already provided at The Royal Marsden, and their Psychological Support and Pastoral Care team, which is funded by The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, is working closely with Maggie’s to ensure their patients are accessing the most appropriate support to meet their needs.
Proteus had previously worked with Sir Robert McAlpine, on projects such as Great Ormand Street Hospital, Battersea Dogs and Cats home and many other well known projects. After completing these projects and creating some great working relationships, some of the team from these projects moved into special projects team within Sir Robert McAlpine and they approached us and we were proud to be involved with the design team at early stages of this project.
Working close with the design team who ensured the rainscreen cladding fixings and waterproofing would work together and keep the building watertight until the cladding was installed. Proteus decided that our Pro System Plus® together with Proteus Pro-Therm® Thermal Protection Board was the right solution for this project, as the roof was going to be open to the elements for some time before the rainscreen cladding was fixed to the building.
As you can see the results of this project are stunning and this is a project we are very proud to have been involved in. Thank you to everyone involved that made this project as stunning as this for their patients and family members to enjoy.
