Project Overview

Located on Rosebury Avenue in Clerkenwell, London, the Lab Building is Grade II listed and houses many residential dwellings. Areas of the building had suffered from previous leaks; short-term repairs were costly and no longer sufficient. Proteus Waterproofing® carried out a roof survey with core samples taken to determine the existing roof build-up and therefore determine the extent of work required. The results of the core samples showed the roof build-ups to be wet, requiring complete removal and replacement of the existing roof system.

Key Challenges & Solutions

• Listed Building: The Grade II listing prevented roof heights from being raised and required permission to use liquid applied membrane solutions. Proteus were able to supply a specialist type of insulation that could be installed at a thinner thickness to achieve the required thermal performance within the height restrictions posed.

• Complex Details and Fire Precautions: A cold installed system was required to reduce the risk of fire as well as offer the benefit of a simpler method of detailing around complex details carried out correctly.

Conclusion

All phases were completed using our Pro-BW® Plus built-up roof system This seamless waterproofing membrane allowed for intricate detailing and the insulation provided the necessary thermal upgrade. On completion and technical sign-off by Proteus Waterproofing® a guarantee was put in place to support the project for the future.
