Located in King’s Cross, The Hilton Pullman is contemporary and stylish hotel close to London St Pancreas station.  The building had suffered substantial water ingress issues. A roof survey conducted by Proteus Waterproofing® showed major water saturation within the roof build up. Due to this saturation, the existing roof build-up required removal and replacing.

Project Overview

Reducing the risk of fire was a key requirement and at the same time the waterproofing system needed to allow the approved contractor to install the waterproofing system to complex roof details. Our cold applied Proteus Pro-Cold® waterproofing system was recommended to meet the requirements of the project.

Key Challenges & Solutions

  • Minimise Disruption: The hotel needed to stay fully operational throughout the project. With a total of four separate roof areas requiring refurbishment, the works were carried out in phases to reduce disruption to staff and customers.

  • Complex Details: Mechanical and electrical systems along with other services were close to the roof surface which required detailing. Brackets and other metal fixings were primed, then encapsulated with Proteus Pro-Cold®. Termination bars were installed on upstands.

  • Upstand Heights: Original upstand heights were low, in some area’s upstand heights were raised to allow for the installation of sufficient Proteus Pro-Therm PIR insulation. Thinner insulation was installed under the air conditioning units and other plant equipment.

Conclusion

Proteus Waterproofing® worked closely with the approved contractor to provide a seamless waterproofing solution and upgraded thermal performance for the refurbishment of four roof areas. The phased management of the project allowed the hotel to operate normally. Each roof area was provided with a 20-year guarantee to provide security and peace of mind for the client.
