+44 (0)1268 777871A residential dwelling located in Fortis Green, London, Proteus Waterproofing inspected and assessed the condition of the rear terraced walkway. The existing asphalt waterproofing was failing and allowing water to ingress into the concrete structure below. The terrace was a dark and unwelcoming communal area, so consideration was given to improving the look and feel of the area.
Key Challenges & Solutions
Insufficient Drainage: Some areas of the walkway had issues with ponding water. To resolve this, drainage was improved by installing additional outlets to provide sufficient rainwater run-off.
Low Upstands: Waterproofing Upstands to the brickwork were too low and upstands to the rendered parapets not terminated correctly. To Finish these areas, upstands were raised to the correct height and chased into the brickwork. Termination bars were used to create a good finish against the rendered areas.
Minimal Disruption: The walkway is a frequently used area by residents; to minimise disruption, Pro-BW® Plus was used as it is a fast-curing waterproof membrane, each layer curing fully in 50 minutes at all temperatures. It allowed for the full system to be installed to areas inside 2 hours. A light grey colour was used in the field areas to lighten the communal feel. The system is fully reinforced to protect from future structural movement and provides an aggregate finish to improve slip resistance.
Conclusion
Working closely with our Proteus Approved Contractor we were able to provide a cold applied liquid, monolithic, elastomeric, waterproofing overlay that improved the ambience of the terrace with its light grey finish.
