Terrace Refurbishment, 5, Portland Place, London

On one of London’s most prestigious streets and opposite BBC Broadcasting House, 5 Portland Place has undergone an extensive refurbishment with new basement accommodation built with a terrace above using a loose laid single ply membrane onto a timber deck.

Product brief:

Following completion, water ingress into the basement was causing extensive cosmetic damage to the bathroom and bedrooms. Further investigation and leak testing found faults at lap joints and at detailing. Applied by the Proteus Licensed Contractor, Cold Melt® seamless waterproofing was selected to replace the loose laid single ply membrane altogether prior to the reinstatement of the timber decking.

Key Requirement: Health and safety

Working on occupied buildings, particularly in cities, safety is always of utmost importance. Proteus liquid applied systems are cold installed and meet all health and safety criteria to work on this occupied flat and minimise risk of fire. With the terrace in close proximity to neighbouring properties, the low odour application allowed the Licensed Contractor to work safely and with minimal disruption to nearby residents.

Key Requirement: Quality Control

Proteus Waterproofing worked in close partnership with the Licensed Contractor to successfully deliver the project to a very high standard.

Key Requirement: Excellent performance

Incorporating recycled rubber-crumb and other organically grown products, Cold Melt® creates an elastomeric, seamless, cold applied membrane.
