Roof Refurbishment – The Law Society, London

In the City of London, the historic Grade II listed home of the Law Society of London at 113-114 Chancery Lane required a new waterproofing system for the roof which was in need of refurbishment.

Product brief:

Faced with the challenge of removing the existing inverted roof finishes and storing them safely while the remedial work was carried out, Proteus Waterproofing ensured long term waterproofing protection with a cold-applied and low odour solution. Applied by the Proteus Licensed Contractor, 300m2 of Cold Melt® seamless waterproofing was selected to extend the lifespan of the roof.

Key Requirement: Health and safety

Working on occupied buildings, particularly in cities, safety is always of utmost importance. Proteus liquid applied systems are cold installed and met all health and safety criteria to work on this listed building and minimise risk of fire. There was the added challenge of plant and machinery on the roof which presented a height restriction when working on the roof below. The specialist contractor created a pre-formed Cold-Melt® system onto a carrier which was then slid into position to give a continuous waterproofing system.

Key Requirement: Quality Control

Proteus Waterproofing worked in close partnership with the Licensed Contractor to successfully deliver the project to a very high standard. The inverted roof system incorporated a Pro Carrier SA, Pro Prime SA underlay film and Pro Therm XPS 50mm insulation. A Cold Melt® UV Top coat was applied to protect the roof from UV exposure.

Key Requirement: Excellent performance

Incorporating recycled rubber-crumb and other organically grown products, Cold Melt® creates an elastomeric, seamless, cold applied membrane.
