The roof was experiencing problems with water ingress; it had been previously overlaid. Core samples taken from the previous repairs showed water saturation within the existing build up.
Project Overview
Proteus Waterproofing's® technical sales advisors provided guidance on understanding the roof build up and how to move forward with the project, ensuring a long-term waterproofing solution.
This project was funded by a grant offered by the UK government to protect museums across England - enabling them to continue to serve communities, care for, and share important national collections.
Key Challenges & Solutions
-
Investigations: Proteus worked with the contractor and appointed project surveyors to understand the previous build-up of the existing substrate. Proteus instructed the contractor to cut out sections of roof, enabling a camera to be inserted so the build-up could be determined.
-
Build up solutions: Due to the depth of the existing build-up, Proteus Waterproofing's® technical team specified that the existing layers should be removed back to the concrete deck. Our in-house design team provided a Proteus Pro-Therm tapered roof scheme to be installed in conjunction with our Proteus Pro-Cold® waterproofing system for a seamless and guaranteed protection. Each time a roof area was stripped, Proteus visited site, and tapered schemes were updated in line with what was found.
-
Listed building: Due to its listed building status, visits were made by the local conservation officer to ensure the works were carried out sympathetically and to a high standard.
Conclusion
Proteus Waterproofing® worked closely with all parties involved in this project to ensure that the roof area was future proofed against further water ingress by creating sufficient water run-off and drainage details. Our high-performance Proteus Pro-Cold® waterproofing membrane has now provided a long-lasting seamless protection so that this historic building can be enjoyed by visitors for many years to come.
