PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Education Trust appointed Proteus Waterproofing to survey the school's flat roofs to determine their condition. Core samples showed there was no roof insulation, and some of the roofs, once cored, were found to be wet - suffering from condensation as well as splits in the coverings. These areas needed to be stripped back to the deck and a new fully insulated system installed, whilst other areas were dry and could retain their coverings, with the new insulation and waterproofing installed directly over them.

KEY CHALLENGES

Working within the specified budget

The client required a scheme that would fit within the specified budget. By treating each roof area according to its condition - full replacement only where the core samples showed it was needed - the scheme was designed to fit the budget whilst still resolving every roof.

Inadequate falls

Some of the roof areas had inadequate drainage falls. The technical team designed a cut to falls tapered Proteus Pro-Therm insulation scheme to improve the roof drainage where it was required, directing rainwater to the outlets across the completed roofs.

CONCLUSION

Regular site visits by the technical team, alongside the workmanship of the Proteus Approved Contractor, ensured the project progressed in line with the specification design, with guidance provided by Proteus Waterproofing throughout every stage. Upon completion and technical sign off, a Proteus guarantee was put in place to provide cover for 30 years and support the project for the future.
