Based in Ramsgate, Kent, Newington Community Primary School accommodates children from nursery age up to year 6.

The Education Trust appointed Proteus Waterproofing® to carry out a survey on the school’s flat roofs to determine their condition. Core samples showed there was no roof insulation. Some of the roofs, once cored, were found to be wet suffering from condensation as well as from splits in the roofs. These areas needed to be stripped back to the roof deck and a new fully insulated roof system installed, while other areas of roof were found to be dry and could be overlaid with insulation and new waterproofing.

Proteus Waterproofing® formulated a plan which would provide a long-term solution to meet the requirements of each roof area.

Key Challenges & Solutions

• Low Upstands: A cost-effective and durable solution was required by the client, so we designed a suitable scheme to fit within the specified budget

. • Inadequate falls: Some of the roof areas had inadequate drainage falls. Our technical team designed a cut-to-falls tapered insulation scheme to improve the roof drainage falls where required.

Conclusion

Regular site visits by our technical team, along with exemplary workmanship by the Proteus Approved Contractor, ensured that the project progressed efficiently and was delivered to a high standard. Guidance was provided by Proteus throughout every stage of the project to ensure all areas of the specification were met. Upon completion and technical sign-off, our Proteus Insurance Backed Guarantee was put in place to provide cover for 30 years and support the project for the future.
