As part of the Academy Trust building maintenance programme, Proteus Waterproofing® was asked to survey the flat roof areas to assess their condition and prioritise their refurbishment. Some roofs required complete removal and replacement of the existing roof build up. Other areas still had a suitable surface to receive a new overlay system.

Key Challenges & Solutions

Insufficient drainage: Some of the roof areas had insufficient falls which were not providing adequate drainage. Therefore, Proteus Waterproofing’s technical team designed a new Proteus Pro-Therm tapered insulation scheme to resolve this issue. Proteus Pro-Therm flat board was used in areas where the falls were sufficient, enabling the project to be delivered costeffectively whilst still meeting all the client’s requirements. The replacement insulation complied with Building Regulations to meet a minimum roof insulation U-Value of 0.18W/m₂K Time restrictions: The Academy Trust required the extensive roof works to be carried out within the limited summer holiday period. To address this, a project specification outlining a schedule of works combined with planned deliveries and regular site visits, ensured the project was completed within this tight time scale.

Conclusion

The completed phases carried out by the Proteus Approved Contractor now have the new Proteus Pro-Felt® Endura Built-Up Roof System with improved roof drainage and upgraded thermal performance. After sign off by our technical team, the completed phases were issued a Guarantee to support the project for the future.
