+44 (0)1268 777871The Manchester Marriott Hotel Piccadilly stands beside Piccadilly Station, with 338 rooms and suites, a spa and leisure facilities. A concrete wing surrounds the building at each level, previously asphalt covered and due for renewal. Each area was cleaned and primed before Proteus Pro-Cold® was applied directly onto it.
KEY CHALLENGES
Access at every level
With a concrete wing encircling the building at each level, the works had to be carried out across narrow, elevated areas with restricted access. As a single pack liquid requiring no mixing on site, Proteus Pro-Cold® could be taken to each level and applied within the confined working space, whilst retaining the existing asphalt kept material movement on and off the wings to a minimum.
Detailing developed for the project
Each wing presented its own interface details, and new details were developed to suit them. The existing trims were primed and re-used rather than replaced, with Proteus Pro-Cold® worked closely around each junction for a seamless finish.
Working around hotel guests
With the hotel open and guests in residence throughout, disruption had to be kept to a minimum. The low odour limited any impact on guests and staff, whilst the cold application meant no hot works were required.
CONCLUSION
By renewing the waterproofing directly onto the prepared asphalt, the concrete wings were protected without the disruption of stripping them back. Once cured, Proteus Pro-Cold® forms a seamless, fully adhered, elastomeric membrane with UV stability. It is UK manufactured and BBA certified - supporting the issue of a guarantee for the roof areas.
