Hertford Brewery, McMullen beer - 200 years of brewing history. McMullen & Sons, known as the Hertford Brewery, was founded in 1827 by Peter McMullen at 26 Old Cross, Hertford, and has remained a family-owned brewery for nearly 200 years.
Famous for traditional beers like AK (since 1833), the company developed a strong tied estate of pubs, consolidating operations into The Whole Hop Brewery in 2004.
When the main flat roofs started to leak, the Brewery turned to Proteus Waterproofing’s Approved Contractor who in turn, asked Proteus Waterproofing® to carry out a roof survey to establish what options were available to extend the life of the roofs while at the same time, keeping disruption to a minimum while brewing continued under them.
To minimise disruption to the brewing process, it was decided to overlay the roofs with Proteus Pro-BW® waterproofing membrane – a cold applied, fully reinforced elastomeric waterproofing membrane. This membrane also cures in 50 minutes per coat thereby allowing staff continued access to the areas while being waterproofed.
