Based in Broadstairs, Dane Court Grammar School accommodates children from 11 to 19 years of age across its senior school and sixth-form.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Proteus Waterproofing carried out a survey on the flat roof areas to determine their condition, with core samples showing the roof was suffering from condensation due to a lack of insulation above the roof deck. Because of this, the existing roof coverings could not be retained and worked over, so the technical team formulated a plan for a new thermal and waterproofing build up.
KEY CHALLENGES
Working within the specified budget
The client required a scheme that would fit within the specified budget. The specification was designed to deliver the new insulated build up within it, resolving the condensation at its cause whilst keeping the works affordable for the school.
Inadequate falls
Some of the roof areas had inadequate drainage falls. The technical team designed a cut to falls tapered Proteus Pro-Therm insulation scheme in these areas to improve the roof drainage - and to bring the roof's thermal performance in line with Part L of the Building Regulations.
CONCLUSION
Regular site visits by the technical team ensured the project progressed in line with the specification design, with guidance provided by Proteus Waterproofing throughout every stage.
