PROJECT OVERVIEW

Proteus Waterproofing was asked to provide a waterproofing system that could be applied directly over the existing asphalt build up across multiple roof blocks. The previous liquid coverings had failed, and a low odour replacement system was required that could be supported by a guarantee - with Proteus Pro-Cold® selected for the works.

KEY CHALLENGES

A working school below

With the building in use as a working school throughout, the project required disruption to the pupils' studies and the staff working environment to be kept to a minimum. The low odour of Proteus Pro-Cold® limited the impact of the works
on those below, whilst the cold application meant no hot works were required at any stage.

Detailing across the roof blocks

The layout of the roof areas brought detailing requirements under the building eaves, around the existing plant equipment and at the new roof lights. Termination bars were installed to all of the details, with the Proteus Pro-Cold® liquid dressed to them to maintain a continuous, seamless finish at every junction.

CONCLUSION
The refurbishment renewed the multiple roof blocks at Coombe Girls' School by applying the new system directly over the retained asphalt. Once cured, Proteus Pro-Cold® forms a seamless, fully adhered, elastomeric membrane which does not become brittle with age, is UK manufactured and BBA certified - supporting the issue of a guarantee to protect the school's roofs for the future.
