Located in the centre of Bristol and home to one of Britain’s largest theatre stages, Bristol Hippodrome is a hub for many major musical productions. The existing roof plant and ventilation equipment needed replacing, which meant the roof required a new waterproofing system to be installed.

Proteus Waterproofing® was approached to provide continued support and expertise throughout the project. Our technical team made regular site visits to ensure the project ran smoothly at each stage.

Key Challenges & Solutions

• Plant details: Some terminations could not be finished until the new plant and ventilation equipment had been installed. These were discussed and agreed once everything was in place. An advisement was made on how all steel posts, pipes and upstands could be terminated correctly to ensure secure installation.

• Co-ordinating trades: Various projects and installations were being carried out concurrently requiring many trades to be on site at the same time. This meant some damage occurred to the new waterproofing membrane, so our technical team visited the site to assess the damage. We worked with the contractor to ensure a plan was put in place to temporarily raise equipment, in order to remediate the damaged areas correctly.

• Planning: Our technical team worked with the contractor to temporarily pause the work to develop a plan to ensure that the Proteus Pro-Cold® system could be installed without further interference, and still adhere to the project specifications.

• Overlaying: Consideration was made to areas where additional layers of Proteus Pro-Cold® were required, reactivation of the existing layer was needed after 7 days of being installed.

Conclusion

Proteus Waterproofing® worked alongside the contractor to resolve the various issues faced throughout the project and complete it to a high standard. The use of our Proteus ProCold® system has provided a seamless solution ensuring long term protection to the entire roof area.
